Michigan MITESOL
1. We had become stagnant and last year we decided to make some changes. Some we have accomplished (most not):
2. Focus on more services for members (web site—new look—log in for members not finished)
3. Newsletter—focus on what members want, more reviews
4. Brochures—redo—give out to graduate programs
5. Conference—more professional (2 day) added conference proceedings and more opportunities for workshops
MIDTESOL
1. Using the TESOL hook of 3, now 5, complimentary memberships

ORTESOL

3. Revising our mission statement to be more practical and inclusive
4. Considering sending leaders to travel to regions in the state to meet/greet, survey, and distribute information
Tennessee TESOL
1. We have a membership liaison person who is discussing pinpointing under-represented groups and contacting them
2. We included membership in conference dues.
3. The conference rotates through the state so that helps get members in all 3 parts of the state.
VenTESOL
1. We always try to recruit members at our national convention telling them how teamwork is, meeting with colleagues they feel motivated and offer to work with us, but I’m really worried because most of them don’t show up when we really need them.
2. We offer also discounts for those members to bring one friend.

At TESOL 2006, TexTESOL (Texas) affiliates facilitated a workshop in which participants discussed their affiliates' membership recruitment efforts. You will find the workshop materials and a summary of our discussion at http://iws.ccccd.edu/dweasenforth/TESOL06.htm .

We would like to continue the discussion of how affiliates can effectively recruit new members, retain new members, and groom members for leadership positions. Share your experiences and plans here for the benefit of all affiliates.
